What is going on in the US?
What is wrong with my country? I was born in 1952 in Connecticut and lived through all the 60's political turmoil. So... WTF? I thought we evolved a little but I see it seems that the left and right division in The US is causing a complete democratic melt down. It really is too bad that people are so intellectually challenged that they cannot figure out what is truth and what is fiction. I sometimes dream that AI will find a way to educate the masses as to what is fact and what is not but I might be a little off on that aspiration. Look... the left has good ideas and so does the right. Somehow, we need to combine all those great ideas and eliminate all the bad ones but who is to decide what ideas to keep and what ideas to toss out? All I can do is relate to my life experiences and project a possible future we all can and should live with.
Up front, I have to tell you that I am not a registered Democrat or Republican, I have always kept my affiliation as independent. Having divulged that, you all should know that I've always voted to the left. I was rooting for Bernie Sanders and thought that such a progressive leader would be best for The US. Someway, we ended up with the orange menace, a convicted criminal with no humane compassion and someone that only cares about his own personal gain. Please people, we have to do better.
So What great liberal ideas do I think we should hang our collective hats on? Well I think government is there for the betterment of its' citizens. Free healthcare, education, housing and food security. All the commons and utilities that humans need to comfortably survive in a stress free environment should be guaranteed to each and every citizen. Capitalism is fine as long as it is based on a Democratic Socialistic system. Taxing the wealthy is the only way this will work. There need not be any billionaires. Everything over one million dollars should be taxed at a fifty percent rate. If you cannot be satisfied with fifty million then you should get psychological help and be shunned by society. There should be ninety percent tax on everything over fifty million for individuals and corporations and no, corporations are not people. Civil rights of all kinds need to be protected to the fullest. Women's bodily autonomy must be constitutionally protected and choice must be the law of the land.
Guns need to be regulated just like cars with license and insurance, not to mention psychological and physiological testing. I've been a fully registered private security officer with the state of California since 2005 and own a 9 millimeter hand gun so I support the second amendment but with some implied limitations that it was originally intended to decree. Thirteen supreme court judges as well as overturning Citizen United is long over due and what say we make Puerto Rico and DC states. Let us outlaw Gerrymandering and all voter suppression. All law enforcement must be fully identified... no more masks or unmarked vehicles. No secret police! Free speech, always and freedom from religion. We are not and never should be a theocracy. No death penalty.
No lobbyists in Washington DC. No insider trading in the political world. Discrimination of any kind must stop.
There should be absolutely no persecution of individuals because of race, religion, ideology or gender and the very small number of trans people should never even be any kind of issue... compassion people!.
We need to support strong unions. We used to have around 35 percent union workers in this country but since Reagan we have dwindled to about 6 percent. When unions are strong, all workers flourish.
We must find a way to keep the military industrial complex at bay. With a military ten times the size of all other countries combined, things are out of control. Let's fix this. We shouldn't be selling arms to countries that slaughter innocent civilians.
So what right wing ideas do I like? Well I guess I should start with immigration. This, however, was actually something that the left tried to fix a few years ago but Trump wanted the issue to help him win the 2024 election and it worked. We need to enforce our boundaries. Most countries prosecute the employers of illegal immigrants but we do not. Many companies advertise in South American countries for employment... "if you can get here we will hire you". It has been a way to get cheap labor in the US and bust up unions. We need strong borders and asylum seekers must wait outside the US before their claim is judged. We need more judges to speed up the process of asylum seekers. As for the illegals that have been here for many years, have no criminal record and have family here, they should get some pathway to citizenship with each case judged on it's own merit.
Another right wing idea that I like is bodily autonomy when it comes to vaccinations. Just like abortion, my body, my choice. There should be no mandates and believe me, I do understand the science of vaccinations. They can and do work but there is an over vaccination problem in the United States every since the 1980's when the pharmaceutical companies got immunity to legal indemnity from bodily harm. This opened the flood gates for massive profits as the CDC recommendation for a child up to the age of 18 was over 70 vaccinations. In the meantime, food allergies, autism and childhood cancers have risen significantly. When I was very young I had 3 vaccinations. During Covid, I could not work as a SAG/AFTRA member and my backup job of security on film and TV shoots was also impossible because I refused the jab. Did you know, they only counted you as fully vaccinated if you had all the shots and waited the 10 day 'waiting period'. If you had the shot, got sick 2 days later and died, you were listed as unvaccinated.
The right wing is also on the right track when it comes to geoengineering. There are over 30 republican run states that are initiating anti-geoengineering legislation. I have been studying this issue for many years and have written a book about it. If you think it is malarky then you just are not educated on the issue. Research Operation Popeye or Project Cirrus.
Both sides of the political spectrum are not the same when it comes to negative political rhetoric. The right wins that honor being the more aggressively obnoxious. We need to come together as a nation and try to heal our wounds if we want to live in a vibrant, free and healthy environment. We can do this. I think we can.
